Ball Gags and why I love them…

The ability to speak and sound out thoughts is a powerful thing… take that away and you’re immediately making a sub vulnerable. Their ability to utter a safe word will change to an action… so the very act of gagging them, whilst it can be deliciously beautiful, can also add a nice touch of humiliation.

Nothing more than muffled whimpers and moans will be intelligible through a ball gag. It will stretch the jaw and cause copious dribbling, which the sub will have no way of dealing with (providing you’re keeping him/her properly restrained 😉  ) They are great additions to pet play, where the very act of gagging your ‘pet’ brings them closer to the pet they are trying to imitate – by taking away their right of speech.

Silicone is usually the flavour of choice for ball gags, and whilst it’s not particularly pleasant, it’s odourless and tasteless unlike its rubber/latex counterpart. You can also get them in leather and they even make candy ball gags – for the sub who has been a VERY GOOD GIRL. That’s something to aim for, right?

What’s in it for the wearer?

It will reinforce the awareness of their role as ‘slave’ or ‘sub’ and increase arousal from both a physical and mental standpoint. Making them look at themselves in a mirror, can also add a lovely touch of humiliation to a scene. It will also increase their vulnerability and dependency on their ‘Dominant.’

What’s in it for the Dominant?

Great visuals. If your slave is in restraints and a gag, completely at your mercy and listening for your every command, it’s a heady feeling of power. It’s also makes rather a beautiful and delightfully arousing picture. There’s also the added benefit of peace and quiet 😉

Tips

Start small. Buy a small gag and only allow your sub to wear it for short periods of time at first. Stretching the jaw can be quite a painful experience at first and you should get your sub used to the experience of wearing a gag gradually.

Safety

Don’t  use ball gags if the sub has a cold or any kind of sinus infection for obvious reasons – he/she needs to be able to breathe through their nose!

If buying a latex gag – discuss allergies before hand.

When deciding on a safe ‘action’ to replace your safe word, it’s often a good idea to give your sub something that makes some noise, which will snap you quickly out of a scene. Give him/her a squeaky toy that he/she can squeeze, a pair of keys that she can drop or some kind of beeping alarm button that can be depressed, if they have use of their fingers. Check regularly that the sub still has their emergency safe action. Breathing is a very important commodity!
